About the set

• Issued in 1974. 156 cards, numbered 501–656.
• The first pop set with a number on every card. All the pop sets after it are numbered too.
• Mostly pop singers and groups. A few cards show motorcycles (516–521), horses (552–554), and film, TV and western stars such as Tony Curtis, Roger Moore, Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood and Ron Ely.

How to recognise

• The number stands in front of the name with no period after it, as in "522 Led Zeppelin".
• Two later pop sets reuse some of these numbers: 1975 Popbilder Period After Number III from 547 and 1980 Popbilder Period After Number V from 501. Those sets put a period after the number ("586. Mud", "501. X T C").
• Cards are seen in coloured frames (yellow, pink, orange, turquoise) printed "Stjärn-parad", "POP" and "Populära samlarbilder". Wrappers with the same words are known for 1974 Popbilder No Period II.

Numbers to know

• No 639 Tina Turner is misprinted with the number 689.
• The opening run, No 501–543, is the hardest part of the set.
• From No 585 to the end most cards are common. Exceptions in that stretch include 589 Sweet, 610 Mick Jagger, 613 Bill Wyman, 635 Michael Jackson, 642 Elton, 655 Björn and Agnetha, and 656 Abba.
