More about this set
About the set
- A western set from 1968–69: 181 cards of cowboys, Indians and film and TV westerns.
- No card carries a number. The cards fall into four types, each with its own typeface on the card:
- type A, 1968, 58 cards: described in this file
- type B, 1968, 61 cards: 1968 Stora Western-serien (2)
- type C, 1968, 35 cards: 1968 Stora Western-serien (3)
- type D, 1969, 27 cards: 1969 Stora Western-serien (4)
- On the site all 181 cards are on this page. Each card is marked with its type and a reference number within the type; the numbers are not printed on the cards.
- Nearly all cards were sold in plastic packs of eight. Yellow, pink and red packs are known.
- Type A is mostly cowboys and Indians: Bonanza, the Winnetou films, Den Siste Mohikanen (The Last of the Mohicans), Laredo, Mannen från Virginia (The Virginian), the Cannon family and Western actors such as John Wayne, Robert Horton and Jeffrey Hunter.
How to recognise
- There is no number on the front. The four types differ in the typeface of the card text.
- Many captions are in Swedish, for example "Ur Winnetou-filmen", "Den Siste Mohikanen", "Familjen Cannon" and "Helgonet" (The Saint).
Numbers to know
- Difficulty varies across the set, and some cards are really hard to find. Of the four types, type C is the hardest to complete.
- In type A, Elvis Presley on horseback (ref. 43) is the hardest card.
- No type A card is really common. The easiest include the Cartwright cards (Ben, Hoss, Little Joe and the three together), Dull Knife, the two Billy Blue cards, Gil Favor, Robert Fuller and Helgonet.
Related sets
- The other three types, whose cards are on this page: 1968 Stora Western-serien (2), 1968 Stora Western-serien (3) and 1969 Stora Western-serien (4).
- 1966-68 Popbilder Unnumbered Series: the pop set of the same years, also unnumbered and split by typeface. Its "TV 67" pack may hold a stray western card. Winnetou, Old Shatterhand and the Cartwrights appear in both sets, and Robert Fuller is in the 1967–68 pop part.
