More about this set
About the set
- Issued in 1959. Numbered 1–100, with the year added ("1/59" to "100/59"). There are 120 cards because 20 numbers have two pictures.
- Published by Cumulus of Stockholm. The set also came out as postcards.
- The photos are printed in a single colour tone, in several different tones (see below).
- Both laminated and unlaminated cards exist.
Variants and printings
- Other tones exist too, for example blue-green.
- Cumulus made a few proof prints in colours outside the four main ones. These proofs are rare.
- An uncut sheet of ten brown pictures is known.
- Many collectors stop at the common brown cards; others, Elvis collectors most of all, look for all four printings.
How to recognise
- There are four main printings: red; black or grey; brown; and brown-white with a blurry picture.
- On red, black/grey and brown cards the text runs horizontally (landscape). On brown-white cards it runs vertically (portrait), which is how to tell brown-white from plain brown.
- Pieces marked "Bild-Kalendarium" with a number and "Aktuella Film- och Scenidoler" are shown with the set. Whether these are wrappers or cards is unclear.
Numbers to know
- No 6–10 and 16–20 are double numbers: Ingemar Johansson in brown and brown-white, and Tommy Steele in red, black/grey and brown. In brown, both pictures exist under the same number.
- No 76–80 are double numbers. Brown and brown-white show Susan Strasberg (76) and Brigitte Bardot (77–80). Red and black/grey show Sophia Loren (76, 77) and Gina Lollobrigida (78–80).
- Every other number exists in all four printings.
- Brown is the most common printing. Red, black/grey and brown-white are uncommon, and black/grey is the most sought after. This holds for every number; no single number stands out.
