S Set
Common in printings 1 and 3. The unlaminated printing 2, pale or brownish and slightly grainy, is much harder for every number, and for 25 numbers no copy of it has been recorded.

Good to know
- Twelve numbers exist mirror-reversed in the laminated printing: S 41, 42, 49, 55, 70, 84, 89, 93, 97, 111, 122 and 230. The reversed cards are no harder to find than the normal ones. On S 41 Roy Rogers, the horse faces right on the normal card and left on the reversed one.
- The number is a plain S followed by the figure, for example "S 35".
- The hardest printing-2 cards are S 1, 8, 10, 19, 23, 30, 47, 53, 75, 81, 111, 117, 136, 140, 149, 151, 155, 156, 159, 160, 162, 166, 168, 194, 213, 231, 238 and 248.
More about this set
About the set
- Issued in 1957. 250 cards, numbered S 1–250.
- Made in three printings. Two have no laminate; the third has a laminated front. This makes the set a demanding one to complete.
- Sold in packs. A known wrapper reads "Serie nr 258" and "10 världsberömda FILMSTJÄRNOR i strålande färger".
Variants and printings
- Three printings: 1 (unlaminated, reddish or bluish, common), 2 (unlaminated, pale or brownish, very uncommon), 3 (laminated, fairly common).
- Colour differences seen between copies of the same number include S 12 Gina Lollobrigida (red top with green skirt, or green top with brown skirt), S 60 Burt Lancaster (blue or beige-brown background), S 86 Gordon MacRae (lighter or warmer, browner colours) and S 132 Doris Day (red-pink background or brownish sepia tones).
- On printing 2 of S 31 and S 246 (Marilyn Monroe) a black line runs over the name; there the difference from printing 1 is otherwise small.
How to recognise
- 1957 Serie S is a different set from the same year. Its numbers read "Serie S No.", and they run only to 101.
- Telling the printings apart:
- Printing 3 is easy to spot because it is laminated.
- Printing 1 (common) leans towards red or blue.
- Printing 2 (very uncommon) leans towards pink, brown, beige or grey. Its pictures look slightly grainy, often have small stray lines outside the picture (sometimes in another colour), and are often sharper and lighter than printing 1. On some cards a bit of the name or number is missing.
- On some pictures the difference between printings 1 and 2 is obvious; on others it is very slight and needs a close comparison.
- Examples:
- S 4 Anita Ekberg: the swimsuit is dark red on printing 1, white on printing 2, and orange or bright red on printing 3. Printing 2 lacks part of the "n" in Anita and the "k" in Ekberg.
- S 35 Grace Kelly: the dress is green on printing 1, dark green on printing 2, medium green on printing 3. Printing 2 lacks part of the "S" in "S 35" and of the "l" in Kelly, and is sharper. Printing 3 also has a lighter blue background.
- S 6 Marilyn Monroe: the table and drapes behind her are dark red and blue on printing 1, bright red and blue on printing 3, and beige on printing 2.
Numbers to know
- No double numbers and no gaps.
- Printings 1 and 3 are common for every number. Printing 2 is much harder for every number.
- For 25 of those numbers no printing-2 copy has been recorded yet: S 1, 8, 10, 19, 23, 30, 47, 53, 75, 81, 111, 117, 136, 140, 149, 151, 155, 156, 159, 166, 168, 194, 213, 231 and 248.
- S 6 Marilyn Monroe in printing 2 is a rare and interesting card, since its beige background makes it easy to tell from printing 1.
- On printing 2, S 70, 80, 110, 120 and 150 have no S number printed at all.
