The Muppet Show cards from 1978

The 1978 Muppet Show set from Sweden has 78 numbered cards: Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Animal, the Swedish Chef and Pigs in Space. The full checklist and how to collect it.

The 1978 Muppet Show set is 78 cards, 48 in stock now. It is a Swedish issue, numbered 1 to 78, and on eBay it is usually listed as "1978 Swedish Samlarsaker Muppet Show". The cards are colour photos from the TV show with a white border, the number and caption printed underneath and "© H.A.I. 1978" in the top corner.

Who is on the cards

Miss Piggy has the most cards by far. Counting the main name on each card:

Character Cards
Miss Piggy 15
Kermit the Frog 8
Fozzie Bear 7
Dr. Teeth 5
Animal 4
Scooter 4
Pigs in Space, Sam the Eagle 3 each
Gonzo, Statler, Rowlf, Swedish Chef, Floyd Pepper, Zoot 2 each

Kermit and Piggy also share several cards with other characters, so the Kermit and Miss Piggy pages list more cards than the table above. Waldorf, Sweetums, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Captain Link Hogthrob and Wayne have one card each, and a few cards are named after sketches: Vets Hospital, Manah-Manah and Pigs in Space.

Collecting the set

Seventy-eight cards is a set most people can finish. If you follow one character, start there: Miss Piggy is the biggest group, and the Swedish Chef has two cards, #51 (with Kermit) and #54.

The band cards are worth looking at as a group: Dr. Teeth, Floyd Pepper, Animal, Zoot and the Jug Band.

Reading the card

The caption is the quickest way to check a card against the checklist: number first, then the characters, joined with "+" when there are several ("6. Miss Piggy + Kermit + Fozzie"). On this site each card is filed under the first name in the caption.
